So I had an additional very small pond added to the property. for trout. Probably brood fish but who knows right now.

My other ponds take care of themselves because they are 1/4 to 10 acres in size.

This little one is 400 ft. from house and is 25 X 25 X 6 ft deep. Ground water supply. Currently 52 degrees on bottom 56 degrees on top.

It has fairly slow groundwater perc, rough estimate of 1000-1,500 gallons per day.

Its got limestone rock all over, pretty hard water, ph of 7.5 ish.

I am putting some plants in there, not sure how much or how much I will let them propagate because I need to capture them for stripping eggs and sperm.

I will probably only run one long wire for a bubbler just for movement if anything else since it has no water movement. I am trying 12V style but I think I'll need it wired. We'll see how well they work, I'm guessing 18,000 Gallons of water.

Question. Can a small pond be cycled with ammonia in same fashion as a tank?
And after nitrites and nitrates go away ( well when its diluted enough ) should I toss some small fry in there and call it good? Or keep adding ammonia until the standard 4ppm is gone in 24 hours?

Ultimately there will not be many fish in there, 50 fish maybe 2-4 pounds. IDK, 150 pounds of fish. got a few rainbows that are 24" maybe 5 pounds and they are only 20 months old.

OR do I just let it be and cycle with fish since its a bit large for 1000 3" fish.

Thanks.
