Can some one please tell me what these small 1 quarter inch thread like worms in my 125gallon preaditor tank are. They just showed up there, their very small and can barely be seen unless u look real close. I dont know where they came from, maybe the fishes excrement. My friend says hes had these in his tank for a long time but i dont appreciate them in mine. Can i rid these worms from my tank and if not will they hurt my fish? Someone please help.

planaria. when they are in mass numbers and easily visible then they are an indicator of slack maintenance and/or over feeding. they are harmless.

gravel vac more, do at least 40% weekly water changes and put less food in per sitting. they should start to disappear after a few days if your doing it right.
i think of them as an alarm system in my tank. if they appear on mass then something easily fixed is wrong. a warning before it escalates into something much worse if you will.

The other possibility is detritus worms. They're harmless and can be addressed the same way as we do with planaria. More water changes and cut back on feeding.

I got detritus worms I think, in my shrimp tank. Definitely not planaria. I dont see them much but I find that they break down waste under the sand. When I do gravel vacs it sucks alot of them up.
