I've been dosing with vodka for several months now it's done miracles with eliminating high nitrates but has feel alittle short on phosphates. Granted using tapwater it's an uphill battle. Original phos readings where over 5, w/vodka dropped to 3 - add a $40 dollar reactor and $40 for phos ban resin, one week later - .05 and dropping.
Added an Atlantic Blue tang a week ago and he's basically running for his life, the other 2 Tangs weren't at all happy with his addition - probably gonna have to add another one to take some of the load off the atlantic - worked for me with Piranha many times but we will see.
Coraline growth has been very slow, starting to believe it's a magnesium issue (the only test kit I don't have) as calcium and alk are perfect. Perhaps it was the high po4 as well we'll see.
As for corals - almost lost a superman montipora to inexperience, started it too high in the tank. Pretty sure I lost a blue stag horn acro to the same. Mushrooms have become my new thing - they luv my tank with several dividing already and most with a terrific growth rate. Also lost a Kenya to a rock slide - didn't see it comin' bummer.
Other than that all's well.
