OK! Now that I got that out of the way....

Wasn't sure if where I should post this... here, in the general aquaria forum, or the stingray forum.

I have noticed just within the past couple days some small white moving "dots" on the sides/front of my tank. I know its not planaria as I've had those in a tank before. These are anywhere from pinhead to rice grain sized. They appear to move very very slowly. I don't have a camera good enough to take a picture of them. They are oval in shape. The inner part of them is solid white, kind of elongated squiggly looking, and the outer part of them is near translucent like a slime disc. I saw a half a dozen a couple days ago and without looking closer I thought it was just poop or something on the glass, but last night there were dozens of them all over. I wiped them all off with a mag float so they would get filtered out, but there are about a dozen or so back on the glass again today. I have only seen them on the front/sides of the tank, and not on the rays themselves.

Does anyone know what these are? Are they harmful? How did I get them? Best method to remove them and prevent them?

Thanks in advance!

i had an issue like this a few years ago..

turned out to be eggs. cory cats eggs.

ended up with 30 + corys.

Never thought about them being eggs.... but I didn't have any fish in my tank that could have spawned these that I know of, plus these didn't show up until just recently and there has only been 2 female rays, and a tigrinus catfish in it for a couple weeks, then within the last week just 3 female rays.

im pretty sure its planaria usually if you feed A LOT or there is left over food in the tank, these guys will show up. i just swipe my mag float across the front and their gone, and maybe cut down the amount of food you are feeding

Thanks. I appreciate the help.

Ive had planaria in this tank before. Those are teeny tiny worm like basta%*@! These are oval and much larger than planaria. Unless these are planaria hives/sacs/cocoons/eggs/etc... something like that, I don't think it's planaria. Also when I did have planaria, I never saw any of these in there with them, and right now I don't see any of the teeny tiny worms in there with these.

ive seen the same type of thing right above the water level on my tank lately too, tiny as **** but still there, dont seem to be harmful though so far. Hopefully someone else can add to this cause id like to know what it is too.

For me they are all over the glass, front/back/sides. They are getting bigger, and look like they are eating algae. I can see trails from where they have eaten along the back panel. My gf is convinced they are baby snails. It kinda makes sense from what they look like and how they are behaving, but I've never had a snail in this tank, and I'm pretty sure they didn't ride along with the ray I just added because they guy I bought her from said he didn't have snails in his tank.

Anyone else have any input?

bump! Any updates? I don't have anything like that at all in my tank. unless the datnoids are eating them before I see them.....

I was actually going to ask if you had snails, I had some similar looking spots which I'd describe as sesame seed size white spots, and come to find out they are nerite snail eggs. After reading how yours are moving around though I don't think its the same thing because my white spots didn't move, but what came out of them did.
