I get nitecrawlers in my large filter that I have to clean out every time it rains hard. I fixed the mosquito larvae thing by putting some small guppy type fish in the filter. I just leave them in there and they feed them selves.
wish my camera can take those worms , its too tiny , anyway my longfin albino bristlenose pleco is dead , found him trap inside first compartment , all his fins is gone and several red marks on his body , wondering weather those worms done it , can guppies take strong currents?
Guppies are no salmon.... Mosquito fish (Gambusia) will solve any larve issues. Really, any fish will take care of larve if given a chance.
Need pics. of the worms for ID. Don't think they would cause the BN to get beat up. If he was floundering around in the filtration system for awhile, he could have been beat up that way. My goldfish will loss some scales from if caught in the skimmer for a day or two.
i took a closer look and did a search , it does look like phantom midge, Chaoborus , its anchor at the skimmer pipes , lots of it , anyone have expericence with them ? harmful to fishes?
Chaoborus are free-swimming, so your anchored worms are not them. Do the worms have a "hunchbacked" look like Chaoborus? If so, they could be blackfly (Simulius) larvae. If worms are not hunchbacked, they could be tubificid or lumbriculid worms. All of these are harmless filter feeders.
i can confirm the other one to be Red larvae of genus Chironomus aka bloodworm ,as they started to form a colony at the surface when my pump broke down , the one anchored is transparent ,i run a search on simulius
