No true gars stay under 12" long.

As far as false "gars" go, I have no idea; you may have better luck under "Other Monster Fish" and "Other Characins" for finding out that information.

Needle Nose gars ush are 1 ft a lil more sometimes(((not a true gar)))

we have 2 hujeta gars, they don't get too big, around 8-10"- they are not a true gar but look like gars

I've never seen one even reach ten inches, though many store sites advertise larger growth.

smallest true gar is spotted but they get bigger then 1 ft, hujitas are nice alternatives but they are more active (or mine was) so keep that in mind

smallest true gar is shortnose...still gets to ~33" wild max--
