Hello everyone, I have a quick question to ask.

Are there any smaller species of "Payara" out there? In the future I'm thinking about getting an impressive predatory fish (with impressive dentition) but the common Payara varieties are all... big.

This site offhandedly mentions "There are a lot of smaller Payara and peixe-cachorro species present in the same areas and these usually makes better aquarium fish for the normal aquarist."
http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/predatory/payara.php

What would these smaller payara and peixecachorro species be?

Thanks in advance!

Gibbus, Scomb and Ralph are your best bets for staying small. Only problem is their personalities are as small as they are when compared to Armatus :D

Not sure I agree on the Rhaph and i'm certain Vamptev would corroborate. From what I remember of his posts, his was around 14-15" and had to be housed in a substantial tank/pond due to it's flightiness.

Charax Gibbosus was another worth norting though it might be a challenge to find someone selling them!
