I got these guys from an auction held by my local fish club. I bought 7 of them but only have this breeding pair left. They are in a 29 with some free swimming fry. The male isn't even 3" long. Has anyone else seen them breed so small?

My pair spawned at that size. The male just up and died before the fry were free swimming. The mother abandoned the fry and died a few weeks later. Although they did have tank mates, I think the act of spawning resulted in too much stress, too soon. Bloat!
I hope you have better luck with your pair.

Congrats:) mine didn't spawn til 3.5-4" I love odos great job and keep up good work

children having children.. you should be a more responsible parent, and teach them about safe sex!!!! lol just kidden!!! awesome job bro!!!!

They will be upgraded soon. Insteed of pulling the fry I'll pull the parents. I have a couple of empty 75s that should work for a while. Still can't believe such a large gowing fish will breed so small.

That goes for a lot of centrals and you can have better successful with breeding at a young age. Most Parachromis will start at 3-4 inches and even Umbee's start really young, and they grow to be 2 feet long!

this will more than likely stunt your females growth or for haitiensis put her thru to much stress causing bloat and likely death i've seen it happen a few times I would seperate the pair but DO KEEP THEM DO NOT GET RID OF EITHER OF THEM just raise them up to a more suitable size and age before reintroducing them, I'd introduce them at around a year to a year and a half

hmmm... add plenty of oxygen and water changes have temp at low to mid 80's then feed massivore twice a day:) no joke! go with one to one and half pellet per fish per feeding at this size. mine went from 3.25 to almost 6" in 3 months paired and spawning. dont get crazy with massivore tho. i have now switched to hikari bio gold, its cheaper;)
