I've been rearing these guys and I wanted to share this observation before the new babies get too big for me to tell who's who.

Out of a single batch of crays, the ones that have stayed the reddest are the smallest individuals while those that have put on more heft tend to be more bluish. They are all in the same tank, but perhaps they are eating different food of their own volition.

I will most likely be separating the bluest one when she berries up, just in case it truly is a trait.

I had previously thought they would need to be in different environments to display different colors. Seems there is more to it than that.

A higher protein diet will cause them to go blue as well. The larger one may just be getting more of the food you are offering, while the smaller ones are getting scraps and algae.
