I was at a local petshop in calgary today and seen a absolute remarkable thing.I 8"-10" motoro pregnant.i couldnt beleive my eyes.she was very prego and its not the first time i was told.she gave birth to 3 pups 2 dead 1 alive. Is this normal i thought they would have to be at least 15" till mature. This has to be the smallest ray to have pups.Do you think motoros mature quicker or is it the situation and envroment they are in that cause early breeding.

I have a leopoldi female 15" a year old.I was told 2-3 years till she would breed. Are motoros much different from leopoldi or could this happen in my tank given the situation was right and i had a horny male which i do.

there is no real way to tell when a female becomes matured. Males are self explanitory. I am going to say that you got your leo from mike?? 2-3 years is a general info and what mike is saying based on his experience which is pretty dead on.

as far as motoros, they maybe able to breed sooner than leos. I have noticed that motoros seem to be easliy bred in captivity. no way to really tell, and if a female is matured, theres no guarantee that it will breed with a male.

i also ordered a 5 more from thialand they will be here saturday i cant wait

and on that topic the reason it seems motoros mature early and are easier to breed is because their very common and lots of people have them.leopoldi and blacks are $$$$ and rare.If they were cheap and abundant i bet we would see alot of black rays mating early

I have rays raised from pups to become moms within a year. Hybrid rays tend to mature faster and have healthier pups. Usually all my pups survive.

Some rays were stunted cos they did not receive enough food when they were young, but are actually of breedable age.

I've raised a PDR to 13 inches and fully developed clappers in 8 months too, but it was 6 inches when I bought it, not a new born. I'll test if he's mature in a month, by placing him with the females.

This picture of a 6 plus incher was taken in February,

I'll post update of him now with 2+-3 inch claspers.

from what i was told 7" retic is bigger than a 9" motoro for what it is motoros get 35"
