I'm curious as to what are the smallest species of rays readily available that are relatively easy to keep. Also what are their mininum tank sizes. I'm not really interested at the moment in getting a ray but I've looked at both freshwater and saltwater rays and would like to keep one some where down the line. From what I've heard most freshwater rays get pretty large although there are some saltwater rays that stay much smaller. Is there any truth to this? Thanks

Saltwater rays in the "round ray" family stay fairly small (12" across) and can be hardy. They need good room to swim 4x8 at least for a pair of adults, a 6' or 8' round tank/pool would be better though. Also good filtration, skimmer and plenty of sump for sand and bioballs

There's one person on here who has a bullseye electric ray, which only grows to 8-10 inches maximum length. To my limited understanding though electric rays are notoriously difficult to get eating and often die of anorexia. I do believe I remember reading somewhere that the anorexia is often the result of parasite infestations that act up during the stress of acclimation, and if/when they DO start eating (when the parasites are treated) they can be reasonably hardy.
Do NOT take my word for it though.

Electric rays not eating isn't always parasites. It's usually animals not adjusting to captive settings well and not eating due to stress. It's very common for wild caught elasmo species to not eat.

Internal parasites are easy to treat for if you can ID them.
