Hi All,

What is the smallest tank I can safely and comfortably breed motoro in. This is probably assuming 3 rays, 2 female, 1 male. Also what tank would be a good size to raise the pups in? Would a 65g be enough?

Also does anyone know of any smaller species that breed and are hardy but don't break the bank?

I think the 65 was what he wanted to raise the pups in. I have heard of guys breeding in 125 gallon tanks with motoros but you would almost have to have a tank that small hooked to a larger system to keep the water stable. Personally I would do a minimum of 300 gallons with a foot print of bare minimum 6' by 3' to keep 3 adults in.

I would like to raise the pups in the 65g. What is this I hear about hystrix? Are they a more smaller hardy stingray? Can i still breed them?

I have a male motoro and female marbled motoro she isn't sexually mature yet but my male goes at her from time to time so when she's ready I know they will breed for sure.....in my 125.

I personally say a 270 should be the smallest for 3 rays but strongly recommend a 360 8x3x2 would be a good size...

someday when I'm not living at home with my mom on the second floor I will have a 500+ gallon lol. I have the money just not the space.

Sorry to be blunt but no ray should be in 65 gal, pup or not. Even in a 300 gal like mine with smaller rays than vanilla motoro the male has a problem with swimming room to flip the female unless he is an experienced "lover" they end up just biting the female. Then you have the issue of more and more pups as they will re breed as soon as spawn, you may need to separate the parents so third tank. 500 gals is a proper motoro tank! Rays need big tanks, big filters and big volumes of water.....and lots of food
