What is the smallest true gar, not needlenose or needle fish, but actual gar, and how much space does it need?

A short nose gar is the smallest true gar. :FIREdevil

But not the best to start out with..I would get a Tropical or Florida/spotted if you do not have a lot of experience with gar. These fish are quite easy to maintain without many of the issues Shortnose have. Either of the above will need a tank of at least 5 foot X 3 foot wide at adult size..This will take a bit to achieve so there is some time to upgrade as the fish grows. Do not get one though if you can not in time get a very large tank such as the one mentioned.

you should get a tropical gar
very easy to care for and only attain 2 feet

can find them with any vendor

In the US only one has them right now and that is H2O custom aquatics...Mike is the only one that has them..These fish are very rare and rarely imported..Only three importations of Tropical gar have ever been brought into the US. One by George of Shark aquarium (Sold out) one by Jeff Rapps ( sold out) and one by Mike, H2O (currently...I think..Some left)...
