Today i tryed coverting my pbass.

They got used to darting for the top when ever i stick my finger in the tank, and once in awhile even hit my finger dead on if i keep it in long enough.

So i went and grabed some shrimp, cut it to a the size their feeders were mostly.

Then gave it a try, they would dart, and stop and not even nip at the shrimp...

Anyone know anything else i can try?

I was thinking the color of the shrimp is what keeps them from nipping it, so will boiling them just a tad bit to get the orange color work? And wont harm the fish.

Thanks

Let them get nice and hungry (a couple of days or so), then when you do feed, kind of throw the shrimp down at the surface of the water. It makes a slapping sound that my PBass are really attracted to. (It mimics something falling into the water I guess).

There is also a nice sticky by DMack about converting PBass off of live in the PBass sticky post section.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

UPDATE:

Let me sort things out first.

Two PBass named A & B.
Same batch, so same family?

A, is the largest and dominate, i could tell by his bright colors and attitude.
Biggest eater, catches all the feededers even if he has a mouth full.

B, smallest guy, first to attack always.

Next batch, C & D. Got these guys at the same time but from another store.

C & D is slow at getting food. Gives up chase easy...

But...first to try the dry shrimp. LOVES IT...

Even tryed flakes...

Now, i just gotta get A and B to eat like them.

Yea usually when you get a couple of them to eat it then the others see them eating it and start to catch on so keep trying..

Right now the biggest pbass is becoming a PITA.

He wont eat the shrimp, but he will eat my tinfoil barbs...thats about 3inches. And the bass is only 6-7. Already ate two of the 5 i just got...

Sorry to hear he's eating your Tinfoils. :(

Sounds like you will have to remove the rest of the Tinfoils and fatten them up elsewhere while you convert the PBass off of live food. That big one is not going to eat anything else if he can self serve on Tinfoil barbs. Tinfoils grow quickly too, so maybe you can put them back with the PBass later when they are no longer snack size.

Good luck. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Update.

Just got all of them on earth worms!!

I guess i gotta stop by the bait shop now.

Great!

How did you do it (method), and did you use Earthworms, nightcrawlers, or what?

I ask because I have 4 young PBass that have not taken worms for me. :irked: They will hit the worms when I drop them in, but spit them back out immediately and ignore them from then on. Crazy fish will take freeze dried krill and Tetra Jumbo Min, but won't touch the worms. Hello, live food here! :screwy:

I would like to try your method.

Thanks

I did most of that.

And started throwing things in to see what they will eat.

Now they eat freezed dryed shrimp, and earthworms, and once in awhile get a mouth full of flakes.

They dont like hard food so much since they dont really chew their food, thats why pellets never worked.

I kinda started thinking of what i would use as bait if i went bass fishing, and decided to try some worms, shirmp diped in garlic ect. And worms worked the best.
