I was thinking about getting a 240 gallon from glasscages.com for my SMB setup. Is it the length or width that makes the difference or the gallonage? They have several different size arrangements in the 240s and I was looking at the 72 x 24 x 31 Tall, but there is also a 96 x 24 x 25 Tall that sounded interesting.

I was looking at maybe buying the stand and possibly canopy from them as well. Any opinions on those or somewhere else I can get one?

Where is a good place online that I could get a good buy on sump filters? I am looking for a 3-5 cycle sump. It didn't look like PetSmart or Petco sells them. I doubt Wal-Mart would sell them then either.

What else would I need?

for a fish like a smb i think the 96 x 24 x 25 would be better than a 72 x 24 x 31

Glad to see your looking into a good tank for your bass

Thanks for the support! Yeah, I am definitely very enthusiastic and I want to make sure I get a good tank for him. I have the room to work with, but I like the idea of the 72 length, but I definitely have plenty of room for the 96. I think that the 72 would fit the viewing area a little bit better, but the 96 wouldn't be a show stopper. I just need to know which one is really better so I can buy it and get my stand ordered.

I would definately go with the 96" The real issue is surface area, not depth. Give em plenty of room!

where in PA are you located? You can check out www.thatfishplace.com which is in lancaster. They will have a filter for your needs.

I have heard of that place before. I am a little northwest of there in Union County. I saw they have the Fx5. I wonder if they have tanks that size? I will look. Thanks!

The place is like walking into a warehouse. They have all size tanks, and even have a '2nd chance' room where you can get some good deals. You can also get 30% coupons for midweek purchases on everything but tanks. So the Fx5 would only be $210 + tax. Here is a list of there tanks/prices

It is probably a 2hour drive from where you are located, but worth it if you are going to get a complete setup.

I personally always go for length. If a tank is long, it gives the fish more swimming room also. You have more room to put in more plants, unusual shaped driftwoods, etc..Your fish are less prone to fight because there will be more room. If you plan to feed fish to your bass, your bass will have bursts of speed chasing the fish. By the time your bass is at full speed it will hit the glass after the fish. The longer tank gives it a chance to slow up and lessen the blow. I saw it mentioned for gar etc.. to line the tank sides with plants as a cushion for the fish charging.
