Smell something fish in my aquarium.

Your best bet is to geet your water tested at a pet store in town. If it smells "sulfur-y", like glass cleaner or you see a haze to the water it is probably ammonia. If not then think about running carbon through your filter for a bit. I take everything out of my hang on back filter and run carbon for like 12 hours and any smell dissappears

look for uneaten food also. Sometimes I have to turn over decorations to check for uneaten shrimp if I smell something fishy. Usually that's what it is. I hate it when uneaten food hides!!! grrrrrr!!!!!! lol, seriously though test your water and check under and around everything. Do you feed your fish feeders?

yea me too i hate it when i smell something fishy and it ends up being like yesterdays shrimp hiding under the driftwood and bogwood...lol sometimes it makes it cloudy and small ichy. I find it that it sometimes will mess up your water chemistry

At least that doesn't compare to a 38" catfish barfing up over 1 lbs. of shrimp and fish........ ewwwwww..........the water feels slimy. Talk about massive water changes.....

how long has the tank been set up? Could be that nice new tank smell. MMMM mmm ammonia as the tank cycles.

either way get it tested, and a small water change couldnt hurt.
