So i was doing a water change in my planted tank and as the water was getting lower i was overwhelmed with this horrible smell, it was best described as tobacco smell? I did t check the parameter as in the middle of the water change it wasnt going to give me accurate readings. But fish are healthy and fine. The smell lingers on my hands from doing some replanting. Ill tell you what its not, its not dead fish smell, its not filter sludge smell or rotting food smell. I would add i recently added yesterday a diy co2 thingy with the coke Bottle. But ive done this before and dont remember a bad smell. So is this a plant that smells bad out of water, the co2, the flourish? Im lost.

I would point to the co2 thing....

I thought the same thing first but i used this exact method before and i dont remember the smell. I would have to take it apart and take a whiff of the stuff.

Based on what you said the CO2 is the likely culprit (as others mentioned). The fact that it sounds like the only recent change leads to that. Good luck taking it apart and taking a "whiff."

I have nothing against baccy twas just using it as an example of the smell as it was the only that came to mind to describe the smell.

I left the co2 bubbling on during the water change. And it was bubbling greatly in the so that could be what it was. BUT i pulled out this one plant that i had added potted. Hygrophilia? It was potted with some green stuff holding the roots and i decided to take it apart. I could have sworn it was this plant that smelled the worst. Does this plant smell?
