the ater to my 150 smells when i open it up. its fairly new, the ph and stuff are fine and there is no alage. it smells more than my others. smells almost like a wet rotting wood or something :grinno: i dont know. does anyone else have this prob. i know there is the normal fish tank smell but this seems a little diffrent

no one

what kind of filtration?
sometimes activated carbon will stink after a while.

another thing might have to do with your substrate. If its more then a couple inches deep and is undisturbed it can house anerobic bacteria. After that if the substrate is disturbed it can dispurse throughout the tank and foul up everything. It can also get pretty bad for your fish. It would also smell like rotting vegitation.

Try increaseing the surface movement and adding more plants.

i have a empor 400 with new filters and everything its only like 2 weeks old. i have a odyssea 4 that has new everything in it. i also have two of those ECO aqualizers.
the top of the water moves fast so i dont think thats it. and the gravel is half an inch and get cleaned every other day. who knows maybe its just me

Sometimes with new tanks the different cycles will prduce different smells. It could also be from overfeeding. What kind of food are you using?
