Any reason why some days my fish tank i can smell it sitting in my room other days i cant, sounds like a dumb question but somedays it smells prty fishy, dunno what it is, couldi t be a chemical im putting in or what, doing 25% wc a week... any 1 know what it could be?

could be chemicals, high ammonia, rotting food, type of food.. tbh more then a few reasons for the smell. water conditioner gone bad I know wreks like nothing else. If you store foods, ect under your tank make sure everything is properly sealed ect.

If your tank is going through the cycling stage, which if i remember correctly from your other threads i think it is, its probably the ammonia your smelling...

But i do agree, it could be one of many reasons which is causing the smell, including possible dead fish, old food leftover in the tank etc...

If you have the parameters of your water i'd advise you post it up so people can try and give you a better idea of what MIGHT be causing the problem...

I get the same smell too, thought it was my tank I am currently cycling, but it was the already functioning tank that was smelling...

I am agreeing with the food type as well, as ammonia is low, 0 nitrite, and 20-30ppm nitrates...but I am feeding beef heart, and assorted fish 'stock', like oyster bits and silversides. (grocery store frozen food) along with carnivore pellets of coarse!

The smell probably comes and goes depending on which way the wind is blowing

Stick in a powerhead or n internal filter....Water movement will help the water circulate more of the stuff that fish put out.......Also, check the filter's mechanical part......Lots of debris get stuck in it which causes excess smell..........Beef up the 25% change to 40%.........
