so i bought some smelt from the market to feed my cichla.. the fish seems kinda soggy? has it gone bad? the eyes on the smelt are still clear, so i assume its fresh and hasnt gone bad, but i would think the meat would be more firm. do yall feed with the whole smelt or gutted? headless?

thanks

They usually seem soggy when they are unthawed IMO.

Ive always bought frozen smelt. They come headless and pre-cleaned. I usually skin them and cut the meat into small chunks. The fish love it though.

I do the same thing...they go nuts over it. It is a pretty "soggy" fish...not nearly as firm as some of the the other stuff I feed.
