Regarding the smithsonian zoo in washington DC. Ive seen their large impressive amazonian exhibit and was wondering if they could posibly take my large silver arowana to keep as a specimen (considering they have a large pond full of them). The arowana is around 20 inches long and outgrowing my 125 gallon tank. It would be awsome if they could take him and spoil him. Is this even an option? Do zoos commonly do this? I know places like that usually just say no because everyone wants to give them their old pacus and oscars that have outgrown theyre little 55 gallon tanks.

It is VERY unlikely. I would not even bother trying. Find a suitable owner for him, or buy a bigger tank.

Only one way to find out, ask them. Just make sure you are talking to the right person.

And you will probably have to pay shipping or get it there.

On freak occasions they will, but it's not really a great solution for people thinking they can grow one out a bit and then pass it on to the nearest aquarium/zoo. Good luck though!
