Every since I replaced my pump with a used one off a reef tank I see water is best described as smoke like something shooting out of the return. I say smoke like as its the most easy way to describe it, but a more accurate description is the effect you get when you mix unlimited amounts of fresh water and unlimited amounts of sea water. If you have ever went snorkling in a river the flows into the ocean you will see this effect as you get closer to the ocean. You will be swimming the water will be crystal clear and all a sudden it will become hazy like you have cataract and then just as suddenly be clear again.

Do you thing there is a chance that pump is just really really seasoned with salt that has leached into the plastic, and is causing this effect? It doesnt seam to be effecting the clarity of the water, in fact its clear then ever. Its also unlikely micro bubbles as this is a closed loop intake and return both under water.

Hello; Could it be cavitation? This can happen with propellers/ impellers. If I recall, the forces along a spinning blade create a strong low pressure area that causes gasses dissolved in a fluid to sort of boil out. It should not last in the water for very long. Cavitation has been very destructive to the blades of impellers as this boiling can cause pitting on the surface.

My 1300gph circulator makes a 12"x12" spot look just like your description, almost like looking 1 mile ahead on a flat hot road in the summer.
