SMOOTH softshell turtle?

No pic yet, but picked up a softshell today - approx 8 inch shell. Nice cute little guy.

I have had many of these in the past, but never this type. I am pretty sure it is a Smooth, which is quite uncommon.

I have had spiny, which are VERY similar, but have no dark spots. This one has dark spots on the back (As opposed to being all tan)

I'd like to know if any of you have one with pictures to compare. Thanks! (He also does not have the typical sandpapery feel of a spiny)
I just have never seen a smooth in person, so want to know if any of you have had one. Thanks
 
Cool, be nice to see some pics of them, don't see them around too often. How much was it (if you don't mind me asking- pm me if you'd rather)
 
does anyone know where u can get these in cali? or do anyone know a website i could order thme off of or somthing?
 
I am not sure they are legal in CA.... check on that, but there are many online sources. I paid $30 for mine. Most softshells DO reach huge sizes, yes :)
Davo, are you referring to smooths, or softshells in general? If smooths, then are they tan, with brown spots? Or just plain tan?
 
Davo - cool - would that description be accurate?
 
I believe they can have spots, and some without. At least thats what i've always noticed.
