I found these snails in my pond and there reproducing like snails do and i was wondering if someone knew what they were. They must have hitched in some water hyacinth, and i need to know if they are just algae eaters or if they are going to eat my plants. Im pretty sure the big one is a type of ramshorn just dont know wich and the other one i have no idea. Input is appreciated thanks.fish 045.jpg

I agree with the pond snail and ramshorn but they won't eat your plants. They only eat decaying plant materials, left over fish food and some algae. I have these types of snails in all my planted tanks and they never touch the healthy plants. They are a great clean up crew though.

The pond snails outran my ramshorn snails in the snail culture tank. But these pond snails are what most aquarists culture for their puffer fish and cichlids, sunfish, raphael cats, etc. Most bigger fish love a snail or five now and then. Add a touch of calcium to their water and diet and they'll explode in no time if there are no predators.
