Add a loach.

Also, add a piece of lettuce. The snails will gather on the lettuce, then you take it out.

Never add a fish to solve a problem.

The best way is to lure the snails, and pull them out. I use potatoes as they are cheap, and sink on their own.

Why not? Obviously you must use your own discretion, but if the tank is capable of an addition of another fish, and the tankmates are compatible, I fail to see the issue...

Getting a fish to do work for you is a bad choice for many reasons. Quite often the fish will outgrow the tank, or will create a new problem that is as bad or worse than the initial problem. If you like the fish, that is a different story.
