So resently I've had this random boom is snails in my tank. Only thing I've added resently are a new severum and some dwarf pike cichlids. I didn't think snails could ride in on fish so I have no clue where they came from. Anyways, they're taking over the tank and I want them gone. Any tips on how to do this?

1.Add a loach in there and will be gone.

2.Small bottle with lettuce inside. Remove it next morning with snails inside. Repeat till gone.

Thanks for the fast response. Any recommendations on types of loaches? The pikes will eat anything they can get in their mouths...

Clown loach.

You could treat with meds, or something copper based to kill snails; but might want to check its safe for your fish first

Its probably not an option, but my goldfish LOVE snails. I move them into other tanks for snail removal then put them back in their tank and they do a pretty good job at keeping numbers down.

Also, from what I've read (and this holds true ime) snail population size is determined by how much food they have. The more food available, the more they reproduce. If at all possible try cutting back on the feedings a bit and you'll see the snail population decline. Cutting back feedings and the bottle trick combined should all but eliminate them.

Also, zucchini works in the bottle as well. :)

Can they eat wood? Cuz if so they have all the food they need...

I have no idea. I assume they could eat the biofilm on it but idk about the actual wood.

They may eat decaying plant matter depending on what kind of snails they are, along with any eggs the fish lay, any micro particles of food spat out of the fish's gills etc.

Now we wait for someone who knows more than I to find out if they can eat the wood. :)

No one is touching them... Not the severums, geos or pikes...
