Would it be possible to put a snail in the tank with my Convicts to clean up the algae? Will the Convicts kill the snail? Will the Snail eat the eggs?

I forgot to mention...I was thinking of Mystery Snails or Apple Snails. The large snails and not the little ones.

dont even bother benz.

for your 27 with just a pair of cons, weekly water changes and physical scrubbing/removal of any algae should be enough.

never tried it myself, snail keeping, but it sounds kinda risky.

I was thinking about the big ones too. Seems like my experience has always been the cichlid following the snail around, picking at them. Eventually they pick them to death. Remember, snails are slow and can't easily get away from the harrassment. And they are constantly harassed when they arent tucked away in their shell.

thats definitely what i figured is gonna happen, but i have no experience myself. thanks zekni

i just let the convict fry eat the algea

I'd say the best option is to go to your LFS and buy a few plants that have those small snails on them, I call them termites. They can clog up your filter if left to go out of control, but I have found they really help your plants and algae problems, and if you can get them big enough to have babies of their own, which isn't very big, then they'll produce so many that they can make enough survive.

Just my opinion.

A 27 isnt too large that cleaning the algae will be too terrible a chore, the snails can be big pains be careful with those "pest" ones!
