After saying that I am quiting the hobby and selling all my fish and my 150 gallong tank, I decided to keep my qt tank (45 gallons) and put some small fish in there and a few inverts. No one would even make a fair offer on my 375 gallon tank and giving it away is not the way to go for me so if work picks up I might get it up and running, any way I have bought snails (turbo) twice now and they die off the very same day. The first 2 I didnt accl. so I thought that was the problem, but the four I got yesterday I accl. for aleast 1 1/2 hours and they were all dead this morn. I am using sand and rock out of the dt that I sold and I did use copper in there and I did test this tank and according to my test kit it doesnt show that I have much if any copper in the tank, my hermit crabs and my horseshoe crab are fine so what do you think? Is there still enough copper in there to kill them?

it must be traces of copper. try getting rid of the sand and replacing it with new stuff. id give the tank a clean out, but that means that your tank would probably go through another cycle. if you have any big buckets or boxes to put the livestock in i would do it. a tank can be fishless cycled in about 7 to 10 days. so theres one option.

another option would be to forget about the snails, and do your own gardening.

your other inverts are fine at the mo, but theres no saying that the sand will release a load of copper and kill the rest of your inverts. so maybe its worth the hassle sorting it out, rather than being on edge all the time wondering if your gonna wake up to a full tank wipeout.

Thanks for the input. The filters have alot of media in there with good bacteria, so I could take all the sand and rock out and get some fresh live sand and some new rocks so I shouldnt have to worry about cycling again.I just could'nt see the snails dying off in hours because of that little of copper of course they were feeding off the rocks. Maybe it does'nt take much
