If I grow out some baby mystery snails until they’re bigger then could I pull them out of the shell, cut the foot off and freeze them to use to feed to my gymnallabes typus eel catfish?
How would I feed him live snails? He’s in a tank with them but he never attacks them however a while ago a couple of my snails randomly died but left nothing but an empty shell and no body.Do you happen to know if they are naturally snail eaters?
Seems like a lot of work to prepare the snail this way if it’s something that would naturally know how to catch a living snail (most fish seem to be good at that though). Would be good to test some live snails just for the sake of learning more about this fish species.
I don’t see anything wrong with feeding snails, frozen or alive, to the fish though. If it doesn’t eat it, something will.
Yea I see him eat bloodworms and night crawlers but don’t have a good supply of either of those and now that I have a bunch of baby snails growing I thought I could use some of them.I'd say you could give it a try. When I had pictus catfish, I sometimes crushed for them a few of the whole snails I fed my clown loaches and they gulped them right down.
Though, pictus catfish are notoriously unfussy eaters. I don't know if that would apply to your eel catfish (after all, you didn't see it eat for a long time).
Having living snails in there is the test for that. Sounds like something is eating them. You’d have to see it attack the snails to know it’s eating them though. How would I feed him live snails? Yea I haven’t seen him actually attack or eat a snail but he went for the worms instantly so I don’t see why he wouldn’t go for some escargot if it were dropped in front of himHaving living snails in there is the test for that.
