Today i noticed 3 small snails in my planted exodon tank. The snails are have a golden brown shell with a blackish gray body. They move relatively fast for a snail.

First of all, what are the problems with these snails? Do they eat plants or harm the fish in some way? Secondly, will the exodons eat them? Last, if not, what fish can i get that can eat the snails and not get eaten by the exos? Is there any kin of armored loach for this? Thanks

Assassin snails don't reproduce at nearly the same rate as normal snails. You could pretty much let them do their job and then pick them out by hand if you don't want them in there anymore.

I doubt any loach would survive with a shoal of exos for very long.

If there's only a small group of snails in there now, try taking them all out by hand. Then leave a piece of lettuce in overnight and see if any stragglers are on it in the morning. Pick the lettuce out and toss it, repeating as needed until they're gone. Worth a shot.

Lettuce thing never worked for me... in a planted tank the leaves are basically the same so my snails are on foliage most the time. Exos should eat small ones little by little and with the aid of assassins you should be good.

Snails help with algae and cleaning up a bit.

I keep MTS in all my sand bottoms tanks. They keep your sand stirred and keeps it from forming toxic pockets of gas from rotting materials. Theses pockets can release and kill fish in extreme cases. In a planted tank the snails will eat dying plants which really helps out.
