Snails keep getting into my pump's propeller....

Just wondering what are some of my options to use to keep the snails out of there?

BTW this is one of them pumps that is not submersible so it's hooked up to the sump from the outside.

how do snails get in your sump in the first place?

They probably crawl in lol. You could put a filter pad over the intake.

Its called an impeller, BTW.

You can't use some sort of net or pre-filter on the return pipe that leads out of your sump?

I have a small piece of aquarium filter sponge blocking it but somehow snails just crawls right thru. Have to clean out the impeller(always been calling it propeller) almost weekly.
