Bred 20 species of fish plus and here i am lost about snails. lol thats how this hobby is isnt it? so i have 10g. all this tank has ever had was a newt frogs and then recently my baby ebjd. this tank has never had live plants or anything else introduced. recently i look and there are dozens of tiny baby snails all over. but they arent pond snails that much i know. they are either mts or msytery snails. how they got there no freaking idea. i know everyone says that but ive rly gone through every possibility. now question to all this is whats the "incubation" period for most snail egg species? how long can mystery snail eggs stay without hatching (when i get answer ill explain why i asked)

Hello; I have had MTS snails survive in gravel in a bucket for several weeks after the gravel was remove from a tank. I had poured as much water off as possible and there was enough moisture left clinging by surface tension to keep them alive. I think MTS are livebearers. Some Snails that lay eggs encase them in a very tough membrane that will protect the eggs. This membrane and the eggs can be hard to spot. I have no idea how long they can remain viable either in or out of water.
snails are super hardy, never been able to get rid of them if you use ANYTHING from a tank they had previously occupied.
When i bought my tank it had been empty with only substrate, gravel, for 3+ months. I didnt use the gravel, i replaced it with sand. And i ended up with hundreds of snails. Since then i added plants and there is soo many now.

Last year in my 55 gallon there were two snails that came accidently with live plants. I had about 200 snails after 2-3 months. Had to clean up the whole tank and start from scratch to get rid of them.
i have two giant ramshorns, my tank is slowly becoming overrun with them. Im just buying a bigger fish.... then ill have population control ;-)
