Hey guys I'm looking to add some snails to my 250 with 2 18 inch pass and 22 inch gar. I have heard great things about what snails can do for an aquarium but not sure if my tank mates will eat them. I feel like they would eat my finger if I put it in there!! Any info on which snails to get if possible would be great. Thanks guys!

What do snails do for aquarium?

They help keep the water quality up and eat any algae that may bloom. I thought they would be a cool addition given the right species

Just make sure you don"t use salt. Standard cichla keeper's advice is to raise the temp and add salt.

If u going to do it i would get apple snails hey are the biggest that i know of

I have a snail in my tank that came with it. Believe it's an apple snail.... When I had a jack in the tank he always tried to eat it. My bass have never even bothered with it.

I also add salt to my tank when I do WC. while thinking about it common sense says it probably would harm him I've never noticed any problem at all.

You don't have to worry about Apple Snails breeding like crazy since they're not A-sexual but it seems to me that Cichla would try to eat them (of course I have no experience with Cichla, only medium sized cichlids)
