I have recenty found I have a snail problem . They are just really little , I suck up hundreds of them when i do water changes every week . My qestion is how can i get of them with out useing any chemicals ? I am really against useing chemicals in my tanks unless really nessasary . so is there anything that will kill them off ?

thanks brett

There are several botias and puffers that love snails but I don't know if they are something you want in your tank. The only other way that I know of is to physically remove all you see everyday, and dispose of them. It is times consuming and takes weeks but you will get rid of them eventually, be especially careful to wipe up any egg masses you see.

i thought about fish that would eat the snail but it is a preditor tank with a large jager cat , 4 bichirs and Aro so i dont think the lorches, botias, or puffers would be around to long .

try a rafle catfish

put in a a hollowed out cucumber in the tank weight it down obviously. leave in overnight take out before you turn lights on again and rinse off snails and repeat and......repeat.

Good idea!

If you have MTS (which what it sounds like you do) they are pretty good because they stir up the substrate. If you can get a syphon that is hooked up to a return to the tank (Magnum 350 or Vortex XL) do lots of gravel vacuuming and then use the cucumber to catch the rest of them. Kissing gouramis also eat snails and they can get a good size. Getting them that size is the problem.
