Right now I have all my snakes on newspaper but I am really getting tired of the look of it. I really want to make all of my tanks have more of a natural look to it. The snakes I have and want to switch are corn snakes, blood python, pueblan milksnake and carpet python. I have tried repti bark before but I didnt like how it was dusty and then I have also used aspen but dont care for it much either. Any suggestion for stuff that has worked for you?

I usually use aspen. I use ground coir (e.g. Bed-A-Beast) with some snakes; it retains moisture and it's easy for them to burrow in. But you have to take the snakes out of the enclosure when you feed, because the coir sticks to everything and they will inevitably ingest some.

Oh and I do take my snakes out to eat so you dont have to worry about ingestion.

For the colubrids try a mixture of organic soil and collected leaves. Put the leaves in the oven for a little while an mix periodically. That should kill any parasites. As for the Carpet and blood, I'd go with cypress mulch. That seems to add a natural touch to any enclosure. Not sure about the Blood though. In my experience they are messy snakes and seem to soil everything in the enclosure making cleaning a chore with mulch. Try a google search as well and you'll get a ton of ideas. Have fun!

I use aspen for my boa, coco fiber brick stuff for my corn. The snake aspen bedding stuff is great imo.I know its not super natural looking but you can spot clean it good because the waste shows up good.Repti bark does have too much dust to me.Care fresh works good but got pricier and its dusty too.Like someone said, the coco fiber stuff sticks to the prey so feed out side the tank and it should be fine.Use marbles.Thumb tacks, idk.

I LOVE eco earth bricks . Its safe coconut shredded real soft like soil. A few bricks yields lots of substrate .

They come dry you drop it in bucket of hot warm/water and it breaks apart and expands real fast.
Than let it dry and great to use. I have always fed my snakes in tank yea they ingest some but no splinters like ESU junk and harmless.

They love to borrow in it also.

Yes a tiny bit of coco fiber will stick to the prey but if you let the mouse thaw out than pad it down with a paper towel to remove that moisture before putting in tank than close to none will stick to it.

I am assuming that coco fiber is same as eco-earth which I use.

Yeah, it's the same stuff. Coconut fiber (coir) that has been ground, dried, and compressed into bricks.

I am really liking the idea of the thumb tacks but I would be a little worried that it might stick to their food.lol I think I might try the eco earth I use that with some of my other herps so I always have some on hand. But any more ideas would be welcome I am going to keep on trying until I find something I really like.

The nice thing about the eco earth/bed a beast stuff is it retains moisture real well. Not an issue with the colubrids I know but with big constrictors (the blood for example) the added humidity helps with bad sheds. I used cypress mulch because it would take a crapload of bricks to do my big enclosures (I had a retic and monitors) and it works well too...not as dusty as the reptibark, and also one of the bark brands is reddish and will stain everything red when it gets wet.
