Hi guys
I am looking at getting a snake neck and was wondering if it is ok to put fine gravel or sand in the bottom of its tank. Are they inclined towards trying to eat it? The pet shop just has them on a bare bottom.
Cheers.

If I was you I would just leave it bair, but you could put huge rocks on the bottom, but those can be a hassel to clean, because dibrie gets caught under them. So I think a bare bottom with a couple of huge rocks on the bottom would be fine. :) The problem with sand is... well you said it, it can be ingested, so I wouldn't take the chance, besides a bare bottom is the easiest thing to clean.

but you can add sand without any problem ( if cleaning is not a problem for you )

I've always kept snakenecks on bare bottom. I use long fake plants with weighted bottoms for decor and to give thema place to hang on to and chill.
Just like the pic in my avatar

I think you can:confused: Never tryed. However if I were you Ill leave it with large smod rocks because this guys tend to eat by vacun and you dont want sand on your prized turt´s gutts:D

You may be thinking of Matamata turtles. Snakenecks, at least of the Chelodina and Macrochelodina eat like snapping turtles. Mine snapped oversized food in sections to eat. They have a bony jaw plate and a lot of power in their bite.
