I know that for example, water doesn't need to be dechlorinated for rabbits or dogs, but it does for fish. I really need to know if I need to dechlorinate it for snakes, I might get a corn snake.

Also, I bought a very small "house" made of coconut from a petco, this would be alright, yes?

Thanks for helping.

you should only dechlorine water for animals with permable skin aka fish and amphibians.

You don't have to worry it with reptiles.

I have really hard water and when I have it, I give them bottled mineral water, but taps always been ok. The half a cocunut "house" are ok, but not really for snakes, especially young corns. They'd do better in a toilet roll tube cut in half and slightly flatened or a piece of cork flat.

I usually use tap water, but when I was living in Minneapolis the chlorine levels were so high that my turtle's eyes actually swelled shut (RES). I through some dechlor in and his eyes cleared up within an hour. I doubt that would be a problem with a snake though, since when they soak their heads usually stay above water.

Definitely dechlorinate for aquatic turtles...I always say its best to treat an aquatic turtle like a fish that basks ;) :)

Snakes, unlike turtles, actually have a layer of skin that goes over their eyes (you see it in their sheds) and wouldn't affect their eyecaps any more than the rest of their body.

Never dechlorinated for my snakes and they'd even lay in their water when preparing to shed.

I'd think it might actually be detrimental to their health to add dechlorinator to water they are going to consume, but not sure on that.

Either way, none of my snakes ever had issues, so no worries.
