Snake Road Southerm Illinois - 2009

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The cottonmouths are just starting to move of their hibernacula here in TN. If the weather stays warm they should be out in IL by the time you get there.

Just saw a bunch of garters emerging from their den today. I think this is going to be a good year for snakes. Good luck!

Wierd. I'm originally from a little town called Herrin (11 miles east of Carbondale) and I've never heard of this before.

My wife and I both went to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC) and I never heard of it until last year. My wife teaches for SIUC on Saturdays, so we will bring the travel trailer and camp near by. While the wife works, I can take my girls hiking to look for snakes.

Also consider checking out Cache River State Natural Area. Lots of great habitat and cool herps there.

Yes they are mating now here and countless road kills over a 100 on my block alone.
