i have 5 inch peacock snakehead (channa pulchra) in a 75 gallon medium planted tank with a florida gar which is about 6 inches. 3 days ago the snakehead out of nowhere chased the gar around the aquarium, and ended up catching it in half (just like you would bite an arm) and swam with the gar like this for 2-3 inches. i didnt see any physical injuries, but i isolated the gar in a 10 gallon box inside the aquarium with holes to keep water parameters normal and let the gar not be as stressed. i thought they were cool with each other as i saw them ignore themselves most of the time just swimming by and not batting an eye, but sometimes ive heard some splashing sounds at night but couldnt figure out what happens in the aquarium exactly. so, now my question is there anything i can do without selling one of those fish? i really like both of them, but i know that being responsible is knowing when to let a fish live a good life. i feed my snakehead live earthworms every 2-3 days, but i didnt really see aggression in feeding time. so, please help me because i know snakeheads are bullies but as ive seen cases of successfully having gars with snakeheads i thought i could get away with it too. there is also a L001 pleco, but he minds his own business and ive never seen him even close to the gar.
