snakehead and arowana

what type of snake head can you keep with a 6 inch green arowana

For the most part snake heads are not compatible with other tank mates. You may have success with equal sized pleuro's but even then aro's can be territorial and so are snakeheads, I think it would only be a matter of time before fights break out.

+1

Rainbow's don't get big enough mate it'll end up as lunch , anything that does grow big enough will fight with aro , I've tried it in past with jardini it didn't turn out well , the other thing to consider is one chomp off a snakeheads teeth could end the green aro and that wouldn't be good ( bit of a risk IMO ) the other thing is temp difference I think most snakeheads are sub tropical and live at lower temps happily

I ajve kept adult Pleuros with silver and black arowanas for years. Never a problem, nor even a sign of it.

And Pleuros are tropical, for what it is worth.

I would hesitate with any other tropical Channa. And would hesitate even more with asian aros which i find more agressive ( greens and rtg's above all ) than south american arowanas.

With jardini all bets are off.

I haven't tried it but i' agree, Pleuro's with blacks or silvers would work fine, South americans are MUCH more laid back arowanas , where asian's are quite territorial and aggressive

As for rainbows, absolutely not as mentioned they are fall too small. snakeheads dont mix well, and also they are sub tropical so warm temps year round will kill them.

the ONLY possible option to try is pleuro's , and my bet is as the fish grow fights will break out so i wouldn't recommend it.

I actually think that Channa Lucius may be a better option. They are even more passive than C. Pleuro. I have had success keeping them in a number of communities.

That's one you dont hear about often! Do you still keep the species ?

No, unfortunately I had to sell them off to make room for my C. Pleuro group.
I housed 3 successfully with a single C. Pleuro for a couple of years. That's the only 2 Channa species that I have housed together without much issue. The other tankmates at that time were Dats, Bottle Nose Cats, Bichirs and Spotted Raphs.
If I recall correctly, Brucki housed his C. Lucius with Snakeskin Gouramis.
