Snakeheads do not mix.

It all comes down to this....

What I'll never understand is that dispite the fact this is the first thing you'll learn with even the slightest bit research on ANY channa species people still choose to try at the expense of the fish.

I understand but people choose their species of fish to keep for many reasons. One of my reasons is not to abuse them of course but to find a truly personable mean Snakehead which takes no prisoners. I am a Monster Fish Keeper for a reason. I love fish with an attitude.

I've had my experience with Micropeltes. It was the toughest, baddest destroyer that I know. Ever since then I've been getting to know other species of Snakeheads.

Certainly I didn't mix them to watch them fight. I was more focused on their hunting ability and their level of bravery. For example the speed of Pleuros, and if a tank mate pushed it away will it run and hide or defend itself?

I've heard of Pleuros mixed with other Snakeheads but I didn't know how far is this true or possible. Being 3 inches babies I thought if that's possible it should be at this size. And it turned disasterous. The Pleuros have really established their territory and the Striata was an instinctually known threat to them.

4 on 1 and the 1 did the impossible. Can you imagine what 4 Striatas would have done? I wonder though what changed the Striata in that moment. He was scared and fleeing from the attacking Pleuros. In that few minutes of quietly hiding in the floating plants and settling down made him an unstoppable force.

He isn't even scared of me, he has the manner and calmness of a full grown Snakehead. His pectoral fins move and wave so calmly and gracefully as he watches me bravely. And with such relaxed posture he gently rises and gulps air. I see no cute baby behaviour. He is completely healed and well fed now.

Striata is so hardy no wonder they are so common and widespread. It's because they are THAT! DAMN! GOOD!

Lucky you. None of my Snakeheads get along. I'm sorry to hear about your Pleuro.
