Hey guys was just wondering if it was possible for me to get my snakeheads on pellets and dead food, im currently feeding them some feeder fish which i quarantine for about 2-3 days, i bombard them with the right amound of aquarium salt and some anti-ich medicines for assurance, i also gut load them. It sure if fun to watch them devour those goldfish and guppies but due to the risk of running diseases into my tank im kinda reluctant to having them eat feeders. And i just found out that i have Fish lice in my tank which im sure is from the feeders so now will currently treat my fish. Thanks guys. BTW i have a Channa Micropeltes and Channa Lucia, Micropeltes grows like wild fire. ;)

I have heard that feeders out there are better than ours but.....I never feed live. I have not kept snakeheads since the mid 1980s but when I did they ate frozen krill and frozen silversides. They are usually so aggressive that they hit anything you throw in the tank once hungry enough. I cannot see why you cold not switch them.....also; three days is not very long on a quarentine. I would suggest closer to two weeks. Right now you are medicating your snakeheads with its food!

Hi,

non of my snakeheads gets live food (except live insects).
Not even the lucia, when young they enjoeyd frozen mosquito larvae, now they feed on whole frozen fish (lancefish, rudd, roach).
Except from the lucia all others do take pelets .
For your channa I recommend whole shrimpt (including shell) and whole frozen feeder fish. Fisheaters like micropeltes and lucia need the stuff inside the gutts of theyr prey .

I wouldnt know about feeders here being better here cause im pretty sure most of them have diseases and what not, hahahah, regarding quarantining the feeders, yea i know 2-3 days isnt enough, il try fixing that. I'll start starving them so they would hit on the pellets. Btw i was able to feed my lucia some dead shrimp today so i feel quite happy hahaha, he just kept munchin on them.

I've had a lucia for 6 months and i've had to use trial and error with foods. He eats river shrimp and earth worms easily enough but when it comes to dead food he'll only take prawns and muscles, in the past i've tried squid, chopped fish and dillies but he won't entertain any of these.
