The Real Norcal
Are there any species of snakehead that will put up with tankmates?
to be specific: one that can be kept in a 100 (for now) gallon tank with a 8" pair of JD's, a 14" managuense, and a crenecichla xingu I (not in yet, growing out)?
I will be moving to oregon soon as I got a new job there, and am definately going to pick up a snakehead first chance I get,as they are illegal here in california and ive always wanted one.
I was hoping I could get one that would be able to rough house with some fairly tough tankmates without wiping them out.(i know they dont have teeth like a channa, but they are brawlers, believe me,and the breeding pair of JD's has got even the 14" jag on edge)
forgive me if I sound ignorant on the subject of channa, but one learns by asking,no?

most the smaller snakeheads will tollerate tank mates of the same size. bleheri, gachua, sp. assam. BTW i'm pretty sure snakeheads are illegal all across the states. Not just in California

Just so you know its ilegal to buy, sell, own or posess snakeheads in Oregon

Yup, illegal in all of the states. But FYI I have had success keeping Channa Pleurophtalma with tankmates. Gotta keep an eye open, but if you start them early with tankmates no problem.
