Got my snakehead about a week ago and everything was going well. Noticed today that he was not eating and swimming around as usual. Upon close inspection, saw 6 lice attached to his body. Treated the entire tank and was wondering whether necessary to pick the lice off his body or will the medication take care of it.

What med did you use? How big are the lice? I remove the adult ones with tweezers though since they can withstand the recommended dosage usually intended to hit the larval stages.

Lice about 1/3 to 1/2 cm. Meds = generic anti fluke & lice medicine (1 drop = 1 gallon)

Any suggestion for taking a 14 inch giant snakehead out of the tank and picking the lice off?

These are still young. What is the active ingredient of that med? Dimilin? Trichlorfon?

hey lupin... seems like everyone is getting this lately... but anyways... he is right it has to have the dimilin for the stuff to work... I used API general cure that says it treats lice.... it didn't work cuz it doesn't have dimilin in there... but now i am treating with jungle labs parasite clear tank buddies... i didn't pick any of them off... the package says to treat for 3 weeks... i put this in my tank last thursday... and my clown knife probably have like 20 to 30 of them on them... they are all gone and dead... but you still need to treat for 3 weeks to take care of the larval... but i would highly recommend this stuff... difubenzuron is the same thing as dimilin... you can check my thread is has a pic of how bad it was... and i'm about to post the after pic... hope this helps
