So if you catch a snakehead is it illegal to keep it. I know you can't import them or sell them but can you keep one?

No, in fact, you must kill it immediately. Don't release it, don't say, hey look what I caught, just kill it. At least that's the way it is in VA and MD.

I live in Kansas so no snakehead here just have been reading a lot about them and was woundering what the law really says not what we think it says . so a carp is a invassive species if i catch one of them should i kill it. lol

No, it is not illegal to keep them, you just can't keep them alive. They actually prefer it if you don't put them back.

That is illegal, and you all need to stop talking like that. They are taking the snakehead threat really seriously around these parts, and they will come to your house if someone reports that you have a snakehead. It's not funny at all, it is giving fishkeepers a bad name.

Snakeheads are illegal to keep in the united states(alive). If you catch one it is the law to kill because of their massive eating habits and their massive spawning.

There are few posters in here kept illegal fish and they got busted...paid huge fines and went to court. It's stupid that some posters in this thread that says PM ME if you have a snakehead to shipping out. That is black market, kinda give us fishkeepers a bad name.
