Well hi you guys!

I'm going to India for fishing this summer for a few weeks ^^ .
And I will catch a lot of Snakeheads there :) so will I be able to take them home to Sweden alive in my backpack? Or is it illigal? Or do I have to get some permissions?

Anyone wich knows the answeres of my questions :D ?

Cheers ^^

You just can have 100 milliliters of liquid in your handluggage, so only very small fish could be taken.

ANd I dont know about the natura preserve laws in india, or the import lamws on fish in sweden

Okey thanks but you can import fish from forgein countrys in Sweden but I'm still a l'il bit confused becouse I don't know if British Airways would let me take home those fishes.
Anyway these fishes will be small, I planned to take home small fries. :)

But whats up with the oxygen?
Should I take some oxygengas or something ?

british airways would insist that ANY live animal travels in the hold , they will accept them but there will be a price to pay and it will need to be agreed in advance , you will need to declare them as pets as diferant rules apply to importing animals and traveling with pets , also this will depend on when you are traveling ,if it is after the e.u ban then it would be illegal to transport a wild channa to sweden so bare this in mind

Damn the E.U ban will take action this summer :S !

the e.u has passed a directive banning wild caught Channa as well as other fish inc. spiney eels, barbs ect. do to the fact they might carry a certain fish disease , so from august this year you will see very few Channa in shops as the vast majority are wild caught , if anyone want to try there hand at snakeheads now is the time .

there are many people trying to breed them ,to keep Channa alive in the hobby , but only the big boys micros straita etc are being mass captive bred at the moment (for the food industry in Asia) some of these will still make there way over here i would of thought .

i don't know how they are going to police it , how can they be sure its captive bred being imported Rather than wild caught ? maybe they will introduce some system like the arowana has with its microchip ?

certain countries in the e.u will fair better than other , far instance Germany has already got some great breeder and a vast stock of Channa , but in the UK we sadly lack behind ,although there is a small dedicated number of Channa fans trying to breed to keep the Channa hobby alive over here

one thing you can be sure of is after the ban prices will rise as demand grows for what will be then a rare fish in the hobby , if you get into them now you should really try your hand at breeding them

cheers col
