do snappers need a place to be on land when there at a young age. my little on that is the size of a half dollar is always under water. he comes up for air but never comes out of the water on land. is this normal or do they just do that when there little.

i think they stay underwater all the time but float on the surface to bask

It's best to give them a place to crawl out and dry off/bask if they decide to. One of mine has never done it but the other does once in a while and there's one in a pond near my house that does it just about every time I walk by in the summer.

yeah, lil snappers need a baskin area until there 4 or 5 inches long. they may not use it often, buts its best to give em a basking log or sumthin. ZooMed has a dock thing that attaches to tanks that isnt very notcible and real cheap. heres what the "experts" say bout snapper baskin http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/cs-commonsnapper.htm

i hgave used austins page since i started keepin turtles and they havent steered me wrong yet. there forum has alot of insightful guys also.

thanks everyone

I have a little one also and he comes out often to bask. I think he enjoys being out of the water as much as he enjoys being in the water.
