Hi, I don't know if anyone remembers but I posted a few months ago about a common snapper that I was given by a friend. Well, I've upgraded his tank to an old 55 i had in my garage and it seems rather dull with just the 5" turtle. I was wondering if there were any fish i could add that he might not bother, maybe something too fast for him to catch or maybe inverts (he isn't bothering the mystery snails in the tank). Any and all help appreciated.

I have had goldfish survive with my Snapper for months, they seem to learn to avoid her. They did disappear during spring break, however (I guess Snappy got hungry...)

Crawdads would be another cool addition that would add interest until they become dinner.

your tank is too small for the turtle as it is. adding fish will only make it worse. 10 gallons of water to every inch of shell is a good rule of thumb. upgrade the tank to a minimum of 100 gallon before you consider trying to keep tankmates. my turtle will only eat what she can. i have put fish that were too big for her in her tank before and with regular feeding of smaller fish and turtle pellits they last until she can eat them. like i said though, you will need a larger tank a.s.a.p if you intend to keep your turtle long term. i myself have just decided to go all the way and get a 300 gal tank to save the cost of stepping up through tank sizes or the heartbreak of letting her go. hope this helps.

there is a snapper i know of that wont eat fish, even minnows of perfect size
