Okay, this may be the craziest question ever, but listen up!Due to a recent trip to the National aquarium in DC,I saw turtles with fish. While I knew this was possible, one of the exhibits suprised me.In one of their native fish tanks, they had a snapper(common)! So how is this possible.I would love to try it.If any of you have done this, what fish can they be kept with? Thanks!

How big of a tank was it?

Most aquariums put large carnivores with smaller first by either overfeeding the carnivores so they don't ever bother going for the fish. Or they might fill up the tank with very tiny schooling fish so a single one can't be picked out.

A good portion of it comes down to the individual too. You have to understand that Public Aquariums have many holding tanks and can experiment with combinations as well.

to even have a chance of that working you'd need something like 10,000 gallons, with tons of hiding spots and fast fish.

How many times will this question be asked...No matter what the fish will be in danger. It may work but who knows for how long. No fish is safe.

nanoreefer do you have a snapper because if you wanted to with a large enough tank you could do a kinda biotype with sunnies, or whatever i mean fish will be food but if you have a local pond u can get them in cognito

Can be done, in ponds, rather than tanks...but fish are not a priority of the keeper, anyway..

Like mentioned it really has to do with the volume of water and how hungry your turtle is. When keeping turtles with fish always be prepared for some casualties.

Here's a neat setup I saw while visiting the Pine Knoll Aquarium in North Carolina last year. It contained Bluegills, Long-nose Gars and Common Snappers.

Yes, it's hit or miss with some species. Other species like snappers and softshells it's a guarantee. Obviously the more space you have the better chance your fish won't get eaten.
