Not shark/ray related specifically, but this is the only forum I frequent on MFK.
Had a power failure last night due to the heat wave here in the Bay Area - my skimmers are on backup power, as in the chiller on my smoothhound's tank, but not the chiller on my FOWLR. Came down this morning and found several fish dead or dying, including my favorite triggers and one of my gold spot puffers. I immediately checked water specs, nitrates were a bit high, but pH, salinity, nitrites were all within tolerance. Unfortunately, on second look, the water temp was in the high 80s (normally mid-70s). I added bagged ice and ran power from my truck to the chiller after adding some bubblers to increase O2. Most of the remaining fish made a fairly quick recovery afterwards - though my big (10" long) stars and stripes puffer isn't looking so hot. He's sitting on the bottom and breathing hard.
So a reminder to always keep everything critical on backup.
